Your own domain

The steps

• Tell the builder the domain you want to use.
• You are given a record to add at whoever you bought the domain from.
• Add it there. Nothing else is needed from you.
• Once the name genuinely resolves here, the address goes live and a certificate is issued automatically.

Why it waits for DNS

Until the record exists, the entry does nothing at all — no route and no certificate. That is deliberate. Without it we could be talked into issuing a real certificate for a name imitating somebody else’s bank and serving content under it, which is a phishing site with our padlock on it.

What will be refused

Our own addresses, and anything under our preview and live domains. Somebody who could claim one of those could shadow another customer’s app.

You do not have to deal with a registrar at all. Tell us the name you want, we tell you what it costs, and we buy it and point it at your app. A person does that rather than a checkout page, usually the same day — registering a name spends real money at a registry the instant it happens and cannot be undone, so somebody checks the spelling first.
